Sheltered in the Urahara Shouten during the decisive battle, Keigo Asano escaped the destruction of Karakura unharmed. For some reason, Kisuke Urahara took no steps to erase his memory of the events he witnessed. He now lives a short distance away from his hometown. He is both horrified by and drawn to the place, taking roundabout routes to school or the store just to spend a few moments within sight of the town, yet never quite getting up the nerve to walk its streets once again.

During his time at the Urahara Shouten, Keigo received a "Shinigami 101" primer of sorts. He understands that the shrieks he occasionally hears in the night are Hollows. Being able to put a name to it doesn't make it any less terrifying. However, it's still a toss-up whether the Hollows or his sister are more horrific, so he leaves the house when requested. It's at moments like these that he most often thinks of his absent friend Ichigo Kurosaki and the assorted shinigami that entered his life without him realizing at the time.
